“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
Today we gathered out at the church for a church clean up day. One of the task we had planned was to remove the hedges in front of the church and around the church. As you can imagine this was a task that was no small undertaking. We removed some smaller hedges with very little effect, they had very sallow roots that did not extend out from the bush very far. Then there were those that took a little more effect to remove from the ground because they had deeper roots that branched out further away from the plant.
Then there were the ones, the ones that no matter how deep we dug or how hard we pulled, they would not budge. These two bushes stood before us, even though we were attacking with shovels and axes, stood strong against our attack. See they had roots that went deep, so deep that eventually we stopped digging and covered up the roots we had dug up. Imagine for just a moment if we as Christians could stand this strong against the devil and his attacks. See the bushes were not relying on
themselves to stay planted. They were relying on the roots they had spread throughout the ground to keep them in place.
If we plant ourselves in Christ and allow Him to anchor us down during the storm of attacks we face from the devil then we can depend on Him to hold us in place, but we must remember it has to be that solid rock called Jesus Christ that we anchor ourselves in and spread our roots through His ministry. Just like the strong bushes planted in the solid ground whose roots went deep.
